Question 1

What counts as a joke beat?

Accepted Answer

Comedy Engine counts explicit screenplay cues such as [JOKE], (laughs), LAUGHTER, CHUCKLES, GROANS, and APPLAUSE. It does not infer an unmarked joke or judge whether a line is funny.

Question 2

How is scene density calculated?

Accepted Answer

The report groups cues by screenplay scene heading and compares the number of detected joke beats with each scene’s word count. Density is expressed as joke beats per 1,000 words.

Question 3

How do I start a report?

Accepted Answer

Sign in to the MirthMurk workspace, choose a plain-text .txt screenplay, give the report a title, and select Comedy Engine. The saved report is private to your account.

Question 4

How is Comedy Engine different from Horror Vault?

Accepted Answer

Comedy Engine follows explicit joke beats and scene density. Horror Vault uses atmosphere and threat cues to describe tension, and tracks explicit scare actions and scare pacing.
